As part of the Reading Day celebrated on June 19th,the Department of
Economics arranged a book exhibition of
latest works by well known authors in
Economics on 17-6-2014 in association with Abhilash Publications
Ernakulam.
On 22/8/2014 the Economics Association gave a rousing
welcome to the freshers by organizing the Freshers’ Day. A talent hunt was also conducted in
search of the hidden talents of the students.
A motivation and career guidance workshop on ‘Economics and Future Prospects’ was conducted on 1/9/2014 at the seminar hall. The resourse person was Sri.BennyMathew,Employment officer, Muvattupuzha zone.
On 5/09/2014 the
spirit of Onam was brought alive through the traditional ‘Pookkalam’, Onasadya,
Thiruvathirakali and Nadanpattu. Our
students also participated in the Onam fair conducted by the Women Cell of the
college.
The activities of Economics Association for the academic year 2014-15 were officially inaugurated by Sri. T.M. Varghese, alumini of our department and winner of the National Award for the Best Teacher, 2013, on 30-12-2014 at the Seminar hall.
The logo of the department was also released on the occasion.
A meeting was arranged to bid farewell to Ms. Ansiya T.H, who served the department as a guest faculty for 4 months. The session was presided over by Dr. Gigi Elias, HOD, Dept. of Economics.
A social visit was arranged to 'Mother Care Rehabilitation Centre', Vadayampady on 9-1-2015. The Centre rehabilitates 12 autistic children of various age groups. The students contributed an amount and gifted them with educational toys.

Builidng a Better U... The freshers’ day was organised on 31st July, during which the first year students actively displayed their talents.
Onam was celebrated with its traditional spirit with
an Onam sadya by all the three classes and teachers and through active
participation by the students in the Onam sale.
Dream turns to reality

A meeting was arranged to felicitate Hamsa H. of IIIrd B.A. Economics on
winning the bronze medal in Netball team event in the 35th National
Games, being held at Thiruvananthapuram.
FAREWELL TO FINAL B.A. STUDENTS
A memorable farewell meeting was arranged by the students of Ist &
IInd year B.A. students to bid goodbye to the IIIrd B.A. students on 6th
March,2015. The teaching faculty and student representatives offered
their warm wishes to the outgoing students. The session was made lively
by the variety entertainment put forth by the students. The outgoing
students shared their sweet memories of campus life and thanked the
department for the support given . The meeting concluded after serving
appam and stew for lunch.

The academic year 2015-16 started off with a generous act by
the students of the department through the distribution of study materials to
the 53 students of Government L.P. School, Mekkadambu, on 26th June.

The Economics Association was inaugurated by Sri. Jose Joseph, HOD, Dept of Statistics,on 18th August 2015, which was followed by a class on entrepreneurship and motivation. It was organised by the Dept in association with the Industrial Development Office, Vadavucode, to ignite entrepreneurial skills within the students. The talk was delivered by Sri. Lawrence Mathew, Industrial Development Officer, Aluva.

A UGC Sponsored National Seminar on the topic
“Agriculture and Sustainable Growth with special reference to Kerala” was conducted
on the 17th and 18th of September, 2015 at the Golden Jubilee Seminar
Hall of the College.
The seminar was inaugurated by Sri. C.V. Jacob, Secretary, St. Peter's College Trust Kolenchery. It was presided over by the college Principal, Dr. Thampy Abraham. Dr. Gigi Elias, Head of the Department, Economics welcomed the dignitaries.
The students of the Open Course conducted a field
visit to the FACT and Synthite Industry to study on the environmental
protection measures adopted by the same. Based on their study, a project report
was submitted.
'School Espouse'
The Department of Economics introduced a new venture entitled ‘School Espouse’ as a part of the social outreach activities of the department on 22-01-2016. The objective of the programme is to associate with a school in its developmental activities by channelizing the resourceful minds of the student community. With this view, Government U.P. School, Kadathy was identified and they agreed to be a part of this joint venture. The progamme was inaugurated by Sri. Joseph Vazhackan, MLA, Muvattupuzha. As a first step the students of the department initiated a book bank and contributed 100 books to the school library.

Field visit
An Industrial visit to Doddabetta Tea Factory and
the Tea Meseum, Munnar was conducted on January 28th 2016. The
students were given firsthand information of the entire tea history and
processing. They participated in a guided factory tour in which the history of
tea and the different stages of tea processing like withering, crushing,
cutting/tearing/curling (CTC), shaping, fermentation, drying, cleaning and
grading were explained to them.
Creativity Comes To Life - 'The Magnificent' - the manuscript journal by the students of economics was released on 24th February, 2016 by the Head of the Department, Dr. Gigi Elias.
